Roscosmos will create a platform for information support of activities on the Northern Sea Route

According to the state corporation, this will provide continuous information support for the activities of the Russian Federation in the Arctic zone.

Roscosmos, together with other state corporations and authorities, is working on creation of a separate digital platform for information support of activities on the Northern Sea Route. This was announced on Thursday by Valery Zaichko, deputy director of the department of navigation space systems of Roscosmos.

“There is already an order from the president [of Russia] - and Rosatom, together with us, together with Rostec, with other foils and organizations - to create a separate digital platform for information support of the Northern Sea Route. We have already begun to discuss and implement this issue, to develop a concept for the creation of this digital platform ", - he said at the Interdepartmental Commission on the Use of the Results of Space Activities in the Interests of the Social and Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Regions.

The creation of such a platform, according to Zaichko, will provide continuous information support for the activities of the Russian Federation in the Arctic zone. Centers for receiving and processing information will be created, which will make it possible to more efficiently and efficiently receive and provide information for solving problems on the Northern Sea Route.

Earlier it was announced that in 2024 an orbital constellation of four highly elliptical Express-RV satellites would be deployed to provide communications on the Northern Sea Route.

In the autumn of 2020, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that the Russian government will allocate over 30 billion rubles in the next three years for a satellite communication system in northern latitudes using Express-RV spacecraft. This is done in order to provide high-quality communication coverage for the entire Northern Hemisphere. The Express-RV satellites will be included in the Sphere program, the creation of which was announced in 2018 by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
