A lighter carrier may be used to deliver goods along the Northern Sea Route to Pevek

Governor of Chukotka Roman Kopin took part in the coordination headquarters chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak. As a result of the meeting, several decisions were made to ensure the voyage of ships along the Northern Sea Route to Pevek, the Chukotka news agency reports with reference to the press service of the Government of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug.

Due to harsh ice conditions on the Northern Sea Route, 25 vessels are awaiting icebreaker assistance. Among them there are ships going to Pevek. As of November 23, the Vaigach icebreaker is escorting dry cargo ships: RZK Constanta, Turukhan, Grigory Shelikhov from Pevek in a westerly direction.

“Diesel-electric icebreaker Novorossiysk will escort dry cargo ship Vyacheslav Anisimov from Cape Dezhnev to Pevek. According to preliminary information, industrial and construction cargo from the Tiksi, Yamal Irbis, Engineer Trubin, Polar King, Yuri Arshnevsky ships will deliver the Sevmorput lighter carrier by early January 2022, "the the Chukchi Autonomous District government said in a statement.

At the end of the meeting, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Rosatom were instructed to strengthen control of cargo flows along the NSR and create a single platform for predicting ice conditions and building routes. The final stage of navigation-2021 is under the control of the Government of the Russian Federation. In turn, the Governor of Chukotka, Roman Kopin, ordered to create a working group on navigation issues until the beginning of 2022.

Let us recall that the decision to attract the icebreaker fleet to Chukotka was made following the results of the Council under the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District, Yuri Trutnev. Despite the fact that the plan for the northern delivery of food products has been 100% complete, the situation with the delivery of non-food cargo to the district is still hard. According to the Governor of the district Roman Kopin, particular attention is given today to the route Arkhangelsk - Pevek - Arkhangelsk.
